Turns out Dolly Parton and Buffy The Vampire Slayer share yet another connection

From 1997 to 2003, Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) slayed her way into the hearts of TV audiences around the world, her legacy standing strong up to the present day.

Years after Buffy The Vampire Slayer came to an end, fans of the cult drama discovered that one of the biggest and brightest names in showbusiness – the incomparable Dolly Parton – had a hand in bringing the character to life.

Sandallor Entertainment, a production company co-created and owned by Dolly, produced the below-par Buffy The Vampire Slayer feature film released in 1991, with the firm’s executive Gail Berman going on to put forward the idea of a TV series to its creator Joss Whedon.

But that’s not the only connection Dolly shares with the determined, strong-willed Buffy.

On Tuesday January 19, Dolly celebrated her 75th birthday… on the exact same day Buffy would have turned 40 years old.

Yes, Buffy shares the same birthday as the country icon – her birth date being January 19 1981.

Considering the role Dolly’s production company played in launching Buffy on the big and small screen, it may not be too far a stretch to speculate that this coincidence is no coincidence at all.

Several fans of the show reckon this may have been done on purpose… and we have to admit, we may be leaning towards that conclusion as well.

‘Now I’m wondering if they made Buffy’s birthday the same day as Dolly Parton’s on purpose. Probably, right?’ one person tweeted.

‘I have to wish the light in this world that is Dolly Parton a happy birthday. Without whom, I wouldn’t be able to say happy birthday (no coincidence) to Buffy Summers today,’ another said.

‘Both still kicking ass at 75 and 40 respectively. My life is better for both of you. Slay on ladies!’

Dolly marked her milestone birthday with a post on social media, sharing a black-and-white throwback picture of herself alongside a caption calling for ‘kindness’.

‘We can’t just hope for a brighter day, we have to work for a brighter day. Love too often gets buried in a world of hurt and fear,’ she wrote.

‘We have to work to dig it out so we can share it with our family, our friends and our neighbors. So today, January 19th, let’s get to unearthing love.’

Meanwhile Cruel Intentions star Sarah paid tribute to Buffy on the character’s birthday, saying that she couldn’t ‘believe’ the vampire slayer had turned 40.

‘She taught that the hardest thing in the world is to live in it. So in her honor let’s all be brave. Live,’ the actor said.

‘This may not be the way we are used to living our lives, but let’s find the beauty. So we can all live long and safely. #happybirthdaybuffy #buffy40.’

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
