At this year’s TV Baftas, comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan were plenty of jokes about their fellow TV stars.
As they presented the star-studded celebration, the hosts poked fun at the BBC, the Gary Lineker scandal, and the uproar surrounding Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s visit to the late Queen’s laying in state.
Rob and Romesh, who were presenting the event for the first time, kicked off the presentation with a series of ‘edgy’ jokes.
‘As we all know this year, there have been one or two issues with the subject of the BBC and balance,’ Rob began.
‘It’s not easy for comedians to host an award show on the BBC. We need to be funny. We need to be professional and also offer balanced views. This booking is perfect for balance.
‘I see a room filled with some of the hardest working and most talented people in TV all driven by a passion and a love for their craft.’
Romesh added: ‘Whereas I see a roomful of shark-eyed narcissists.’
The pair then chimed in unison: ‘Balance.’
‘She’s nominated for her performance in The Crown,’ Rob added, motioning to Imelda Staunton, who was nominated for best actress for her portrayal as the late Queen in The Crown.
‘Apparently, Holly and Phil got to watch that a couple of days before everybody else. A little bit of edge for you, early doors.’
The This Morning hosts were chastised on social media for failing to join the public queue when they spotted the late Queen laying in state.

They then stated that they would ‘never skip a queue’ and that their visit was to report on the occurrence.
However, the daily team have made headlines once more in the last week, with speculations of an ITV crisis circulating as their long-term relationship ‘dwindles.’
Elsewhere at the TV Baftas, Rob later joked: ‘A few months back we were left hoping that The Traitors would be making a swift return to BBC One.
‘Well that’s what some of the papers called the Match Of The Day presenters anyway.
‘Are we edgy? I think we might be edgy.’
Gary was briefly suspended as Match Of The Day host in March following his Twitter criticism of the government’s refugee policy.
Following a boycott by the broadcaster’s top on-air talent, he returned to the air after widespread criticism.
Pundits and presenters withdrawing from a number of football programmes in solidarity with the former professional footballer caused two days of disruption to television and radio schedules.
