Following the news that a series based on the well-loved novel is in the works, fans of Twilight may soon need to make their Team Edward or Team Jacob decisions once more.
The first Stephanie Meyer novel-to-movie adaptation, which starred Kristen Stewart as adolescent Bella Swan who fell in love with a vampire named Edward, was out in 2008.
But in addition to the fact that her partner was a mythological monster with a 108-year lifespan, she also found herself in the middle of a love triangle with Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a student who subsequently learned he had wolf shape-shifting abilities.
Millennials will recall being completely engrossed in the narrative, which later inspired four further films based on the book series.
The narrative is reportedly currently undergoing a second cinematic adaptation, this time for a Lionsgate Television television series.
According to insiders who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is “in its infancy and does not yet have a network/platform or a writer,” but the studio, which owns the franchise rights, intends to spearhead production before putting the package up for sale.
‘There is not yet a timeline for when the Twilight series will be taken out to potential buyers as Lionsgate first plans to find a writer to steer it,’ the publication added.
Meyer reportedly has high expectations for the adaption.
The sources also claim that executive producers Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig are involved.
Godfrey and his Temple Hill production business created the five Twilight pictures, while Feig served as a former co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
Regarding the Twilight and The Hunger Games franchises, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer stated that there were “a lot more stories to be told” back in 2017.
The Twilight Saga, a series of five films released between 2008 and 2012, brought in over $3 (£2.409 billion) at international box offices.
Despite the likelihood that fresh actors would portray the roles, Lautner stated last year that he would be open to reprising his part.
When asked if he’d ever return to Twilight, he told E! News: ‘He’s a good character that is easy to love, so I would never say no to that. Because it’s Jacob Black. He’s a lovable guy.’
