Two Pints co-stars Ralf Little and Will Mellor admit Gaz and Jonny would have to be ‘tweaked’ for modern-day comeback

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps co-stars Ralf Little and Will Mellor have spoken about the ‘tweaks’ that would need to happen if a modern-day comeback was made.

Sitcom Two Pints aired for 10 years from 2001 to 2011 on the BBC, starring Ralf as Jonny Keogh up to season six and Will as Gaz Wilkinson until the very end.

In February, the pair starred in a hilarious sketch to mark the show’s 20-year anniversary, revealing that Jonny was alive after previously being killed off in the comedy.

During a virtual appearance on Thursday’s edition of Loose Women, Ralf and Will spoke about the sketch, offering some hope to fans that Two Pints could make a full return in future.

When asked by the panel whether Gaz and Jonny’s characters would have to be ‘tweaked’ for the present day, Will replied: ‘Yeah definitely tweaked. I mean, we’re a lot older.

‘Gaz and Jonny, they’d be different people now, but I think that’s what could be interesting.’

Touching upon Jonny’s resurrection in the one-off sketch, Will added: ‘So if there is a chance that we do a spin-off, at least he’s not dead anymore. So we’ve opened the door. So we’ll see. Who knows?’

Ralf said that in his view, a Two Pints return would make for ‘a really interesting show in whatever form it would be’.

‘Gaz and Jonny were very laddy and of their time in the early mid-noughties – the world has changed, and for the better,’ the Death in Paradise star said.

‘I don’t think we’ve necessarily seen on screen what your normal, average lads, how they’re coping with a changed world.’

Ralf added that he believes that Two Pints creator and writer Susan Nickson, who wrote the 20th anniversary sketch, could offer a ‘really interesting perspective’.

‘I think it’d be great, written by a woman, a show written by a woman to show how men who were once lads in a different world are trying to sort of adapt to the world now. I think that could be really interesting and very funny,’ he stated.

Ralf and Will recently launched a new podcast together called Two Pints with Will & Ral‪f‬, where they chat to each other and celebrity guests over a couple of pints and some snacks.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
