Vernon Kay reveals I’m A Celebrity stars have their own WhatsApp group: ‘Shane Richie’s as prolific in there as he was in the castle’

Vernon Kay has given fans an update on what the cast of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here have been up to – and they’ve all been keeping in touch via WhatsApp.

The presenter, 46, appeared on This Morning on Friday where he discussed how well the first cohort to take on the show in Wales got on with each other.

He explained: ‘The one thing that made it perfect was that no-one was a closed book, everyone was open to a conversation.

‘Everyone was open to any topic of conversation, which in this day and age we know is really, really important, to just get it out and chat.

‘And I think that created a tight bond between us all and also it enabled us to poke a little bit of fun at each other.’

The show saw the contestants take on challenges in Wales as opposed to in Australia due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Last year’s group comprised of Vernon, winner Giovanna Fletcher, Jordan North, Shane Richie, Mo Farah, AJ Pritchard, Jessica Plummer, Russell Watson, Victoria Derbyshire, Beverley Callard, Ruthie Henshall and Hollie Arnold.

One of the jokers in the group was Shane Richie, who kept the gang entertained with his pranks and funny stories and who Vernon says has kept up his antics outside of the castle too.

When asked whether the cast keep in touch via a special WhatsApp group, Vernon admitted: ‘Oh yes! And I can tell you now, Shane Richie is as prolific in the WhatsApp group as he was in the castle!’

Oh to be a fly on the wall of that group chat!

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
