Vigil stars Suranne Jones and Adam James have revealed the chaos that went on behind the camera while filming a scene for the tense series finale of the BBC One drama.
On Friday evening, Suranne, 43, and Adam, 49, reunited for Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer, taking part in the star-studded Celebrity Gogglebox among familiar faces including Graham Norton, Michelle Visage, Matt Lucas and Michael Sheen.
The real-life pals were seen having a laugh during the show, as they reacted to clips from programmes including Sir David Attenborough’s nature show The Mating Game.
At one point, the pair recollected a scene they filmed for the final episode of Vigil, which went down a storm with TV viewers when it aired from late August to late September.
In the final episode, Adam’s character, Lieutenant Commander Mark Prentice, helped to rescue Suranne’s character, Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva, after she was trapped in a torpedo tube by Chief Petty Officer Matthew Doward (Lorne MacFadyen) in the episode five cliffhanger.
While chatting on the sofa, Suranne turned to Adam and said that he ‘didn’t know how to get me out’, saying that her co-star was ‘rubbish’.
‘In fact, you were so rubbish the stunt coordinator was saying “you just grab her”… I’ll tell you what you did, you made noises like I was 15 stone,’ she remarked.
Defending himself, Adam replied: ‘That’s what you do! If you’re pulling a dead weight… you were concerned that you were like a heffalump.’
The actor said that when he was pulling Suranne out of the tube, he could hear her saying out of the corner of her mouth: ‘I’m not that heavy, stop making so much noise.’
‘Because you were doing this!’ Suranne responded, as Adam re-enacting the groaning noises he made at the time.
Suranne speculated over what would’ve happened if Adam had to lift her, as he added that he ‘just had to slide you out’.
Vigil fans absolutely loved Adam and Suranne’s Celebrity Gogglebox reunion, with one tweeting: ‘I expected to adore Graham Norton and Michelle Visage as much as I do but Suranne Jones and Adam James are honestly the BEST craic on #Gogglebox for #SU2C.’
‘I would watch a TV show of Suranne Jones and Adam James just hanging out #Gogglebox,’ someone else chimed in. Now there’s an idea!
Last night’s Stand Up To Cancer smashed its previous fundraising record, surpassing £31million in donations from members of the public to help fund research into new treatments for the disease.
The show saw The Wanted musician Tom Parker open up about his brain tumour, Bill Bailey pay tribute to his late friend Sean Lock and Davina McCall honour the late Sarah Harding.
