WandaVision Easter egg hints towards true nature of its mind-bending reality

*Warning: This article contains spoilers for episodes 1 and 2 of WandaVision.

An Easter egg has hinted at where Disney Plus’s new show WandaVision is headed, invoking a famous Marvel Comics run involving the characters.

WandaVision has hit streaming service Disney Plus today with the first two episodes and the mind-bending series already has Marvel fans guessing where it’s heading. Ever since it was announced, it has long-promised a fascinating world where everything is not what it seems.

That will be immediately apparent to most viewers familiar with the property, as Vision, who died in Avengers: Infinity War, is alive and the couple acts out a happy life in the form of a 1960s American sitcom.

While hints are made in the first two episodes as to what the true nature of Wanda’s reality is, it’s still playing its cards pretty close to its chest.

However, one of the biggest hints as to what might be going on came in the first episode. In it, a wine bottle can be seen called “Maison du Mepris.” This is hugely significant to the Scarlet Witch character as it appears to be a direct hint towards the House of M storyline from the comics.

This was a crossover event in which Wanda, who has the power to shape and bend reality, created a new timeline after losing her children. The event took place across a new reality with slight variations to the normal Marvel world.

This event involved a lot of the Avengers and X-Men, who are unlikely to show up in the show, but it could be hint that the nature of reality here could be the same as what happened in the comics.

The themes of that storyline are being invoked further in the show too, as at the end of episode 2, it is revealed that Wanda is pregnant. With these hints, it appears likely that Wanda has created a new reality, but how and to what extent aren’t quite clear yet.

We also don’t know if this is being manipulated or influenced by an antagonist of some kind, or if it is entirely self-induced. This strange reality is sure to be one of the main focuses of the season’s nine-episode run and one that will have fans guessing week to week.
