WandaVision episode 4: Fans shaken by throwback to pivotal Avengers: Endgame moment involving Thanos

Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 4 of WandaVision.

The latest episode of WandaVision has thrown fans through a loop after the opening scenes recalled an extremely significant event that happened in the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.

At the beginning of episode four of the Marvel TV series on Disney Plus, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) is found sitting in a hospital room next to an empty bed, where her mother had been staying.

As she hears screams, Monica rushes into the hallway, where there is mass panic and hysteria as people materialise out of thin air before her very eyes.

In Avengers: Infinity War, audiences watched as Thanos (Josh Brolin) snapped half of the universe out of existence using the Infinity Gauntlet, causing characters including Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to disappear.

In the sequel, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) reversed this atrocity by utilising the six Infinity Stones with a gauntlet made by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr).

While the superheroes who returned quickly made their way to the battlefield to help finish off Thanos and his minions once and for all, we weren’t shown what it was like for everyone else when the portion of the Earth’s population eliminated by the blip came back.

As WandaVision episode four shows, Monica – who was one of the people who disappeared – has no idea that she’s been gone for five years.

WandaVision fans expressed their shock and admiration for the throwback to Avengers: Endgame, which sheds even further light on how Thanos’ Snap impacted the world.

‘The opening to this week’s episode to #WandaVision is what I wanted from Endgame: consequences to bringing people back,’ one person tweeted.

‘Seeing people return/un-dusted from being “Vanished” in that hospital after Hulk snaps in Endgame was crazy,’ another said.

Someone else wrote: ‘OH MY GOD THE SNAP, I GOT THE CHILLS.’

‘When Monica started to reappear in the hospital setting. THE WAY I WAS SHOOK,’ another remarked.

When Monica comes across a doctor that she knows in the hospital, they explain to her that her mother Maria Rambeau, who was played by Lashana Lynch in the 2019 film Captain Marvel, died three years previously.

Several viewers pointed out that when we see Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in Avengers: Endgame, this means that the superhero will have been grieving the loss of her best friend Maria and the disappearances of Monica and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), both of whom she was close to.

‘Imagine how much pain carol was in during those 3 years she had lost literally everything,’ one person wrote.

‘Now since we know abt the snap and Maria, the scenes with Carol in endgame hit differently,’ someone else commented.

WandaVision is available to watch on Disney Plus.
