Watch as skier asks to have her toes amputated so she can get back to skiing

In a new clip from My Feet Are Killing Me, a woman who loves to ski nonchalantly asks to have her toes amputated.

Season 2 of the show is currently airing and it remains full of shocking body horrors based around patients feet.

The series follows podiatrist surgeons Brad Schaeffer, Ebonie Vincent and Sarah Haller as they deal with strange and bizarre cases they come into contact with at their practice.

In the latest episode, a skier by the name of Cindy appears to be having severe pain in her toes, which she would like to resolve to get back on the slopes.

It’s explained that her feet have seen multiple amputations and have other serious issues. Dr Schaeffer points out: ‘The foot has had a lot of work done. A couple of amputations. She has a couple of toes that are sticking out all over the place and just jamming those in a ski boot every day is pretty nuts.

‘It’s like, “Oh my God, how are you skiing on this?”‘

Diagnosing her underlying problems, he explains to his patient that she has a ‘severely arthritic big toe joint’ and ‘something that is developing into what we call a hammertoe’. This is on top of two amputations and a toe trying to curl in to compensate.

The doctor outlines his plan, focusing mostly on the big toe joint. He walks the patient through a procedure that would see him place screws and plates to try and fuse the joint. He then expresses a plan for the rest of the toes to try and make them look better.

Cindy then drops a bombshell. ‘Well, I get you are trying to keep it aesthetically pleasing but my days of being a foot model went away when I had the first toe amputated,’ she says.

‘So, wouldn’t it be easier if we just cut them off at the knuckle?’

Dr Schaeffer seems surprised by the request, saying: ‘I’ve never had a patient just ask for an amputation. That was a first.’

He then explains to a nodding patient: ‘You just want these toes amputated? That is not usually textbook!’

It’s a surprising ask from a patient, but also somewhat understandable if the pain was severe enough. However, going back to skiing afterwards? That is a whole new level!

New episodes of My Feet Are Killing Me premiere every Monday on TLC.
