Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has opened up about his complicated relationship with former professional dancer Brendan Cole.

During an interview on Kate Thornton’s podcast White Wine Question Time, the long-serving judge, 56, admitted he clashed with Brendan on screen and off, before his co-star was sacked in 2018.

‘We did lock horns,’ Craig said. ‘I invited him around two years ago to my house.

‘I hadn’t spoken to him for years. I thought wouldn’t it be nice to see Brendan, just to see if he’s working.’

Craig added: ‘Oh God this is going out to people isn’t it?

‘Anyway, he had an electric car. He was showing off. We hated each other.’

New Zealand professional Brendan, 45, had been on Strictly since it began in 2004 until it was confirmed in January 2018 that his contract had not been renewed and would no longer be a part of the show.

Brendan found himself in hot water after he breached royal protocol at an event at Buckingham Palace in 2017, and asked the Duchess of Cornwall to dance.

BBC bosses and show judges were reportedly furious with the pro dancer for ignoring strict rules and waltzing with Camilla at a tea party.

Brendan was partnered with Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins in 2017, however, the ballroom dancer was unaware at the time that it would be his last debut on the hit show.

Brendan was devastated that his contract hadn’t been renewed.

During a morning interview on Lorraine, he said: ‘The BBC has made an editorial decision to not have me back on the show. I’m a little bit in shock. I’m quite emotional, a bit raw about it.’

Brendan officially said goodbye to Strictly in 2018, but Craig aka Mr Nasty has remained on the panel ever since.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One
