Comedian Romesh Ranganathan is set to take up his role presenting Weakest Link after Anne Robinson’s tenure came to an end back in 2012.

While Anne, 77 is now front and centre of Channel 4’s afternoon show Countdown, her former quiz show is soon set to get a revival.

It’s Romesh, 43, who will be taking over from ice queen Anne when a brand-new series begins for the first time in nearly a decade on December 18.

However, despite Anne’s stint providing some of the most-watched TV moments in history, Romesh has promised to give his ‘own flavour’ to his hosting role.

Asked how he would be making the programme his own, he told MyCelebrityLife.co.uk and other press: ‘I mean, Anne was amazing at it and she was a big reason why that show was so popular [because of] the way that she did it.’

However, he explained why he won’t be looking to try and base his style on his predecessor.

The Ranganation star continued: ‘I don’t think any good can come from trying to emulate that… it’s just for me to do it in my own way.

‘The fact of the matter is, that the format is bulletproof, the quiz is amazing, so if you’re into the quiz, you’ll get the Weakest Link, you’ll 100% get what you’re after.’

Talking more about what fans can expect from his tenure, he said: ‘I think me trying to pretend to do it in a different way would just, well, I’m never going to do that.

‘It’s kind of got a different flavour to it, I think Anne brought her own flavour to it, and I’m bringing my own flavour to and I hope people like it!

‘It feels like we’ve got all of the stuff in it that fans of the original show would love, like the actual elements of the quiz, the sort of the tension building up, the people turning on each other, all of this stuff that you know and love – and then I’m just doing it in my own way.’

The first episode of the new series will be a Strictly Come Dancing special, featuring some of the series’ best-loved stars and contestants from years gone by.

He also teased celebs to watch out for throughout the upcoming series, including Kay Burley who he dubbed ‘pretty competitive’ as well as Springwatch star Chris Packham, who apparently has a ‘steely edge’ to him – we can’t wait.

The Weakest Link returns to BBC One on Saturday, December 18.
