A cam girl has voiced her ‘disappointment’ with Channel 4’s Adult Material for not being an accurate portrayal of the porn industry.

The drama explores the world of fictional character and porn star Jolene Dollar (Hayley Squires) – whose life slowly starts to unravel after attempting to help new girl Amy (Siena Kelly).

Adult Material has been a hot topic among viewers since launching on Channel 4, with many audience members branding the series as ‘disturbing.’

Speaking about the four-part series, Polly, a cam girl for Off The Record Models expressed her disappointment after she felt the ‘tragic backstory’ was inaccurate.

‘I was disappointed because, from the adverts, it came across as a woman who works in the porn industry, who’s really in charge of itself, who’s really owning her job and is proud of what she does.

‘And then when we watched it, it was actually a really tragic backstory of this woman who seemed like she got into porn because she suffered a lot of abuse, which I think that’s a minority of people.

‘I get the kind of story that they’re trying to put forward and about how abuse can come from lots of years of being broken down and not having the proper support -but you didn’t have to work in porn to tell that story.’

Polly, who gave up her job on a farm in April to go camming full-time, went on to add that those in the adult industry get ‘a lot of stick’ because people assume they do it out of desperation – when that’s not the case at all.

She continued: ‘I find that the adult industry is the most accepting supportive industry, I’ve ever worked in.

‘People treat us as if we’re not human or as if we’re doing this because we’re desperate or we’ve got no other option.

‘But so many of the people that I speak to in this industry, which I feel like is really not represented at all in the show – a lot of them are intelligent women and they are in the industry because they enjoy it.’

‘I am studying to be a sex therapist so for me it’s background work,’ she added.

After episode one Amy ended up stabbing a man called Tom, leaving porn star Jolene to clear up the mess.

Later, Jolene took part in a car crash interview – and fell over flat on her face live on TV.

Her life is slowly starting to unravel and as a result, it looks like her career could be on the line too.

The synopsis for episode three reads: ‘Nine months after leaving the porn industry behind, Jolene’s world is falling apart, with her defamation trial date looming. Can disgraced MP Stella offer her a lifeline?’

Adult Material returns on Monday at 10pm on Channel 4.
