Clare Crawley and Dale Moss left The Bachelorette fans shook after they finally got engaged in the latest episode of the dramatic reality series.

After only two weeks together in the mansion, Clare, 39, was done playing the game and she walked away with her dream man and a big diamond ring on her finger.

As fans – including The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco – tried to wrap their heads around the whirlwind romance, body language expert Judi James told Metro.co.uk what she thinks was going on beneath the surface during the big moment.

‘Dale’s small eye-dart and face-checking signals suggest he’s taking his cues and leads in their plotline from her,’ she explained.

‘Even when Dale tried to get up after dropping to one knee to propose, Claire was quick to push him back down, saying “Hang on, I’ve waited so long for this.” Claire is also the one instigating all the kisses while holding Dale’s head in position with her hands.’

Judi added: ‘So Clare clearly thinks she has met “The One” and has him in her shopping trolley to head for the tills, but does Dale look equally smitten?

‘His lines and his delivery seems to echo Clare, as though he’s taking his lead from her and when she first went into serious mode with the line “We’ve just started this process” he did a small, mocking laugh and a tongue-poke that could have registered some discomfort and rejection.’

The body language expert continued: ‘Dale does sound like a bit of an over-idealist himself when it comes to love though, and his apparent assumption that he’d found the “unconditional love” that he wanted in Claire sounded about as dodgy an expectation as her “I know you’ll never leave me.”‘

‘Someone needs to tell Dale you only get unconditional love from mothers and puppies. Wives always have conditions, usually involving not cheating or not leaving the loo seat up,’ Judi quipped.

But Judi noted that Dale does show genuine feelings for Clare as she noted: ‘Clare’s excocet-style husband-hunting techniques could be seen as one-sided but amazingly Dale’s body language hints that he might not be an unwilling partner.

‘Those looked like real tears brewing in the “Declaring love” scene and it also looked as though his pupils might be dilated when he looked at Clare. This is a physiological sign of liking or even loving the person you’re looking at, meaning it will occur naturally rather than being created for the camera.’

Judi added: ‘I hope they play the sweeping music soundtrack over speakers to them as they deliver their speeches to one another and move in for their PDAs and I hope they give them a recording to take home too, so they can keep the romance alive in private.’

Following the episode, Clare and Dale were delighted to confirm their engagement is still doing strong.

Fans will have to wait and see if this really is the happily ever after Clare has been hoping for in the years to come.

The Bachelorette continues Tuesdays in the US, while it is available to stream in the UK on hayu.
