Real-life mother and daughter Andie MacDowell and Margaret Qualley play a mother and daughter in this hard-hitting drama but we’re a long way from Hollywood here.

Qualley is single mum Alex, a young woman struggling to survive as she tries to escape an abusive relationship and a background that’s been overshadowed by her mother’s mental health issues.

The result is a convincingly gritty portrait of a life hovering on the poverty line, a country that borders Nomadland.

Diana: The Musical

The Royal story gets a musical retelling

If you thought The Crown was fine but that it would have been better with a few more Disney-style show tunes to give it a bit of showbiz oomph then this will be right up your regal alley.

Jeanna de Waal belts out the numbers as the ill-fated Diana, Princess of Wales, in a musical, destined to open on Broadway next month, which follows the fortunes of the starry-eyed young Diana as she becomes a global paparazzi favourite.

Need a little fun escapism? Then this perky Mexican cocktail should do the trick. It’s the story of ambitious young Maximo, a lad from the backstreets of Acapulco, who lands a job at the chi-chi Las Colinas resort and soon gets to learn exactly what is expected from a cabana boy: Las Colinas has a very exacting clientele.

It’s set in the 1980s, which explains the short red shorts and the endless curls of curly hair.

It’s a frothy comedy told in flashback in English and Spanish, with Eugenio Derbez and Enrique Arrizon as the older and younger Maximo. There’s also a chance to gauge how well Glee hunk Chord Overstreet is maturing.

Available Friday.
