Strictly Come Dancing 2021 has been a source of delight for fans this year, with contestants including TV presenter AJ Odudu and Great British Bake Off star John Whaite wowing the judges and audiences at home.
The professional dancers, including Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice, have delivered stunning choreography on the dancefloor, despite Covid-19 causing frustrating disruptions for a couple of the stars.
When Strictly comes around, one of the weeks that viewers look forward to the most is Blackpool, when the remaining couples perform their routines at the legendary Tower Ballroom in the seaside resort.
So when is Strictly 2021 venturing to Blackpool – or has it been cancelled?
Is Blackpool cancelled for Strictly 2021?
Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, there will be no Blackpool week on Strictly.
Last year, the special evening couldn’t take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking ahead of the 2021 series, executive producer Sarah James shared how ‘thrilled’ the BBC was for the show to be ‘returning for a full-length series this year’, having been shortened in 2020.
However, she added to The Mirror: ‘We are all so sad that we won’t be able to get to Blackpool this year but can’t wait to be back dancing at the one and only Blackpool Tower Ballroom in the future.’
A source reportedly said that Strictly bosses didn’t want to risk going to Blackpool as a safety precaution.
‘Production had to make an early call on it and sadly couldn’t make it work due to the advanced planning and logistics required plus the uncertainty over the ever-changing Covid protocols,’ they said.
