When does The Great British Bake Off start?

Fans will have to wait a little bit longer for their next helping (Picture: Channel Four)

The Great British Bake Off has become a national institution, and the beginning of a new series is a treat that many mark their calendars by.

The 2021 series has been filmed under similar conditions to 2020 with its stars living in a bubble to follow Covid guidelines ahead of filming back in the summer.

And this year’s 12 bakers have been revealed, ranging in age from 19 to 70, as each of them bid to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Peter Sawkins and nab the coveted Bake Off title.

We’re cancelling all our evening plans as we speak -but just when is the new series launching?

When will GBBO return?

It’s time to get excited folks, as the new series of Bake Off begins on Channel 4 on Tuesday September 21 at 8pm.

Previous series debuted at the end of August but the show moved to a September start in 2020 in the wake of the pandemic – with that series debuting on September 22 last year.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine in May, presenter Matt Lucas confirmed that a new series was in the works for 2021.

Matt explained: ‘We’re starting very soon. Like last year we’re going into a bubble. All self-isolating and getting tested and then we’re going into COVID-free bubble, so we can all taste each other’s bakes and there can be handshakes and all sorts.’

He added: ‘I’ve seen the video clips of all the new bakers and there’s some brilliant ones in there.’

Matt also confirmed to Lorraine that Noel Fielding will be coming back after he was absent from the Christmas Bake Off specials.

Fielding only missed this special due to parental leave.
