When is Riverdale season 5 out on Netflix UK and who is in the cast?

Riverdale fans have been excitedly preparing for season five to finally drop and we can confirm, the wait is almost over.

Archie, Veronia, Betty and Jughead are all back for another series, with things set to look a little different as season five will jump forward into the future by seven years – and a lot can change in seven years, right?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting production, season four was cut short so the new series will kick off with four episodes that pick off from where things were left off last time around.

Fans will finally get to see Archie, Ronnie, Betty and Jug head to prom and graduate from high-school, before finding out where life has taken them.

What is the release date for Riverdale season 5?

Season five of Riverdale will drop on Netflix UK on January 21.

Usually shows are updated around 8am on the streaming platform, meaning viewers will be able to tuck into the CW series from first thing.

And, you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s not a huge turnaround for spoilers to leak, as the UK release comes just one day after season five hit Netflix over in the US.

Who is in the cast of Riverdale season 5?

It’s been confirmed that Riverdale’s four leadings stars Betty Cooper (played by Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) are all returning for season five.

Other familiar faces include Kevin Keller (Casey Cott), Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton), Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner) and Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan, who is pregnant in real life) will all be back too.

Season five will also see the addition of new castmembers, with Broadchurch star Christ Mason bound to stir things up as Veronica’s fiancé Chad Gekko.

Skeet Ulrich, who plays Jughead’s dad FP Jones, and Marisol Nichols, who stars as Veronica’s mum Hermione Lodge, announced last year that they were quitting Riverdale after season four.

However, as the first four episodes of season five are from the previous season, the pair could still appear early on.

What will happen in Riverdale season 5?

Season five picks up from exactly where season four left to begin with. Viewers will see Betty, Archie, Jughead and Veronica finally get to go to prom.

It sounds like drama is on the cards as Veronica could be set to find out about Betty and Archie kissing for real, after previously only pretending to be together to fool Jughead’s fellow students at Stonewall Prep.

The four try to figure out who is behind the cartoon films tormenting them and they will graduate, along with their fellow students, before season five fast forwards into the future by seven years, with the gang all living their lives post-college.

Reinhart confirmed the time jump during an appearance on Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and revealed: ‘We’re actually doing a seven-year time jump into the future so we’re not going to be teenagers anymore.’

‘I’m really psyched about it. I think it will be really nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate that Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa], our showrunner, said let’s revamp, so we’re not just stuck in high school for seven seasons.’

Riverdale season 5 drops on Netflix UK on January 21.
