Ronda Rousey may already have signed a new WWE contract, if Paul Heyman is to be believed.
The former UFC champion – whose current deal with Vince McMahon’s company was set to expire in April next year – hasn’t been seen on screen since WrestleMania 35 in 2019, but now it seems she could be in line for a shock return.
Speaking to the New York Post, Heyman teased: ‘Everyone presumes that Ronda Rousey’s contract expires at a certain time.
‘I don’t understand why people don’t realize that perhaps, just perhaps, Ronda Rousey’s contract has been extended or she has worked out a new deal and it would not benefit either WWE or Ronda Rousey to go public with that information.
‘But why wouldn’t people understand that it would be kept secret?’
Rousey – who was undefeated in WWE until she and Charlotte Flair lost to Becky Lynch in their famed triple threat match last year – has been seen training recently, and she would always be a boost for the promotion as a whole.
Heyman added: ‘Ronda Rousey is a trailblazer, and I would suggest the next time you see Ronda Rousey she will be making history in whatever she does.
‘And if she does it with WWE, it will be something that will elevate the manner in which women’s wrestling is performed and presented because Ronda will never be the status quo.
‘Ronda Rousey will always disrupt the status quo and create a new environment that all others must aspire to.’
Although she made some foul-mouthed remarks about the fans earlier this year, she recently teased the prospect of a return in a tweet directed at Natalya.
Responding to WWE’s tweet about their Women’s Title match on Raw in 2018, she wrote: ‘One of my fav matches – such a huge challenge in so many ways, what a crazy day… looking forward to a rematch someday (sic).’
