I’m A Celebrity 2020 is treating its famous campers to a very different setting, with coronavirus travel restrictions having prevented them from heading to their usual Australian location.

Yup this year the celebrities – including Vernon Kay, Shane Richie, Beverley Callard and Victoria Derbyshire – are braving the wilds of Wales, adjusting to camp life in a castle, which is proving every bit as challenging as the jungle would.

It’s certainly put Gwrych Castle, where the series is filmed, on the map – but just where is it filmed, and how do you pronounce Gwrych Castle?

Here’s what you need to know…

Where is Gwrych Castle where I’m A Celebrity is filmed?

Gwrych Castle is in Abergele, north Wales.

The castle was built between 1812 and 1822 by Lord Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh as a memorial to his mother’s ancestors, the Lords of Gwrych.

Under normal circumstances, it’s possible to visit the castle, but they’re now closed until the new year, having announced in late August that they would be shut for several months (while preparations were made for filming I’m A Celebrity).

When it was announced that the castle would become the home to a handful of celebrities Dr Mark Baker, Chair of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted that I’m A Celebrity has chosen Gwrych Castle to be its UK location for the 2020 series.

‘Gwrych Castle is a beautiful grade I listed 19th county house and a must-see destination for tourists visiting Wales. I’m A Celebrity being here will really help support Gwrych Castle and its ongoing restoration as well as giving the region a much-needed economic boost.’

It might look like a bit of a tongue-twisting name but Gwrych Castle isn’t too hard to pronounce really.

According to the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust it’s pronounced ‘gwoo-rreech’ – with an emphasis on the ‘W’ part being ‘paramount.’

You can hear the pronunciation for yourself in the above clip if you want to practice the name for yourself.

I’m A Celebrity continues on ITV on Thursday night at 9pm.
