Virgin River season two dropped on Netflix this weekend and honestly, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be caught up in Mel and Jack’s love drama once again during the cosy winter months.
The hit melodrama, which first warmed the hearts of many unwitting Netflix viewers last year, centers on doctor Melinda Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) who moves to the sleepy Californian town following the tragic death of her husband and unborn baby.
Following her arrival in Virgin River, Mel makes new friends – such as Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) – but also a handsome new love interest in ex Marine and bar owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).
Their messy yet sizzling love dilemma climaxes in season one and spills over into season two thanks to the news that his on/off girlfriend Charmaine is pregnant with his baby.
(If you’re still binge-watching season two, we won’t even reveal the next spoiler there… )
When we’re not cooing and crying over Mel and Jack’s ‘will they, won’t they’ arc like Monica and Chandler in Friends, we’re fawning over the stunning scenery that is Virgin River.
Each episode opens with drone shots swooping over the mountains and rivers of the small town and it’s breathtaking every single time.
Which begs the question…
Where is Virgin River filmed?
You’ll be absolutely devastated to learn that Virgin River is very much a fictional town.
Let’s be honest, it’s unlikely we could even get there anyway with all the coronavirus pandemic travel restrictions.
However the series allows us to dream about taking brisk walks among the mountains – and being served beverages by the most handsome bartenders in Jack’s bar.
Virgin River is based on the novels by Robyn Carr and she previously told Entertainment Weekly that she’s constantly asked: ‘“Where is it? I want to go there”. I have to remind them that it only exists in our hearts and mind.’
What we do know is that those dreamy exterior shots are filmed in Vancouver, Canada and the surrounding area.
Snug Cove in Bowen Island is a regular filming spot but producers also capture those scenic landscapes in the British Columbia towns of Squamish, Burnaby and Port Coquitlam.’
According to Conde Nast Traveler, the Watershed Grill in Brackendale – located 40 miles north of Vancouver – is used as the exterior for Jack’s bar but the interior is filmed on-set.
You will be pleased to know that Mel’s cosy log cabin is actually somebody’s real home. The caretaker who looks after the surrounding Murdo Frazer Park reportedly still lives in the secluded property. Los Angeles city girl Mel initially wasn’t a fan of the modest lodgings but she’s certainly made it her own by season two.
The exterior fairy lights are a gorgeous touch.
If you’ve always wondered where Doc’s sprawling home and doctor’s office is located, then wonder no more as it’s a real life five-bedroom Victorian house.
It’s currently for sale if you’ve got a spare $2,198,000 million to hand.
The house, built in 1889, is known as Vernon Mullins’s Family Practice Clinic and is situated in New Westminster.
Will there be a season 3 of Virgin River?
Sadly, Netflix hasn’t confirmed Virgin River season three just yet but season two has just arrived so there’s still time.
The new episodes have raced up Netflix’s trending chart where it’s currently at number three in the UK so clearly there’s an audience for it.
Last year, season two was announced shortly after season one dropped so it’s possible the streaming service will follow suit again.
However there has been no indication that the cast are back on-set and the coronavirus pandemic will no doubt delay production.
Virgin River is available to stream on Netflix now.
