After 10 weeks of inspired creations inside the tent, Peter Sawkins has been crowned Great British Bake Off champion for 2020.
The 20-year-old became the youngest winner in the show’s history after taking on Laura Adlington and Dave Friday in Tuesday’s final, with Laura in tears as she paid a heartfelt tribute to him.
His bakes have gone down a storm with fans throughout the series, but viewers might not know that Peter was studying throughout his time on the competition.
In fact, as the show pointed out, Peter has been living with fellow students since filming ended, and his friends only found out he’d won when the result was revealed on Tuesday night.
‘I watched the final with my flatmates. I made something similar to the choux buns in the Showstopper, so it did have an element of the bake in it!’ he said.
‘For lockdown reasons, it couldn’t exactly be a party, but it was great to celebrate with my flatmates and have a few drinks.’
But what is he studying, and where?
What uni does Peter from Bake Off go to, and what is he studying?
The baking whizz is currently one year into an accounting and finance degree at Edinburgh University.
Peter, who was raised in Edinburgh, is dedicated to his studies and wants to finish his full three years before pursuing a full-time career in baking.
‘I want to finish my degree and I will continue to bake. That’s another two years, my studies are top priority,’ he said.
The 2020 series of The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on demand on All4.
