Yep, comedian Axel Blake is officially 2022’s Britain’s Got Talent champion.
The funnyman, 33, was left a little lost for words after Ant and Dec announced his name, saying: ‘I’m shaking, thank you everyone for voting for me… I can’t believe it.’
Axel has taken home £250,000 and will perform for the Royal Family during the Royal Variety Performance.
He won in a tense grand final featuring nine other finalists: Maxwell Thorpe, Jamie Leahey, Ben Nickless, Flintz and T4ylor, Tom Ball, Eva Abley, Loren Allred, 5 Star Boys, and Aneeshwar Kunchala.
So, just who is 2022 winner Axel Blake, and how long has he been performing stand-up for?
Who is Axel Blake?
Axel Blake is a 33-year-old property maintenance manager from West London.
We don’t know loads about his family life, but we do know he has a fiancée and two children: a teenage son and a young daughter.
In addition to property maintenance, Axel has worked in the entertainment circuit for several years now, while also building up a career as a stand-up comedian.
He has presented for the likes of SBTV and UNILAD and has gone viral with his comedy sketches in the past.
His observational style of comedy has earned him headline shows around the country, as well as supporting spots for major names such as Dave Chappelle and Eddie Griffin.
Axel’s live stand-up show, Axel Blake: I’m Not Gonna Lie, which was filmed at Indigo at The O2 in 2018, was released to Amazon Prime Video in 2020 – available now.
While most viewers haven’t been phased by Axel’s past success, a few began to question whether it was fair for the performer to be given the Golden Buzzer by Simon, considering he has been a performing stand-up comedian for some time.
‘No this is a joke, he’s already got his own show and tours,’ one viewer posted to Twitter. Another added: ‘Another professional with a golden buzzer. And an agent.’
It followed criticism of the first Golden Buzzer act Loren Allred who was revealed to be a professional singer who appears on The Greatest Showman soundtrack.
