It’s been a rainy summer in the UK, so many people are staying indoors rather than going to parks and binge-watching the new series of Celebrity MasterChef, which features a slew of famous names.
But not quite I’m A Celebrity-famous, as some viewers people have been wondering who the contestants are. One of which is Remi Burgs.
While Remi’s age is unknown, her voice is, as she has been a host on BBC 1Xtra since 2021.
Remi began her BBC career anchoring the channel’s weekend breakfast programme, and she has since gone on to host at events such as Parklife and Stormzy’s Merky Festival.
Now, the aspiring chef is anchoring 1Xtra’s drivetime show, succeeding Reece Parkinson. She also co-hosted the Mobo Awards in November, highlighting her meteoric ascent to fame.
Remi also had a surprise appearance in Queenie author Candice Carty-Williams’ music business thriller Champion.
So she’s a bit of an urban legend, and we’re delighted she’s getting more TV time – even if it’s in the kitchen cooking something delicious.
Remi calls herself on Twitter as “your local energy supplier,” and as Celebrity MasterChef watchers will know, her exuberant nature is contagious.
Speaking in recent interview, Remi explained: ‘Me calling myself “your local energy provider” is just me being aware of the energy I want to put out into the world. I want everyone to live everyday as it comes.
‘Honestly my energy comes from getting seven hours sleep. If I get seven hours sleep, you’re getting energy for the whole day. As long as I get the chance to recharge then it’s energy all day.’

Even if she goes on to win the popular prime time culinary programme, Remi believes it is critical for her to remain grounded.
‘Coming up as a Black woman, it was very important for me to be myself,’ she explained. ‘That was a conversation I had to have with myself before I even stepped into this industry.
‘That’s just one thing I wasn’t willing to compromise and I wasn’t willing to change for any job. I wear a lot of emotions on my face and I can’t hide it.’
The actress is also a proud part of the LGBTQ+ community, and she used to organise events with a buddy to provide a safe environment.
‘I set up those events also to create a safe space for LGBTQ people to party and feel we don’t need to force our way into venues that don’t even play our type of music,’ she explained.
