Who is Conversations With Friends actress Alison Oliver?

Conversations With Friends will drop in full on BBC iPlayer next weekend – but who is actress Alison Oliver?

After the success of Normal People in 2020, it wasn’t long before it was confirmed another of Sally Rooney’s novels would be adapted by the BBC.

This time, it’s Conversations With Friends coming to screen, which the Irish author actually wrote before Normal People.

The series follows Dublin university students Frances (Alison Oliver) and Bobbi (Sasha Lane), who are best friends and former lovers who perform poetry together.

Their tight-knit dynamic is threatened by the bond they forge with an older married couple: journalist Melissa (Jemima Kirke) and actor Nick (Joe Alwyn).

Bobbi flirts with professional writer Melissa, while Frances begins an affair with Melissa’s actor husband Nick, which leads to a lot of drama across the 12 episodes.

Here’s everything you need to know about Alison, who will gain her first TV credit from Conversations With Friends.

Who is Alison Oliver?

Alison is an actress from Cork, Ireland, and is 23-years-old.

Alison is a relative newcomer and a graduate of Dublin’s drama school Lir Academy – where Normal People star Paul Mescal also graduated.

This will be her first on-screen role, having starred in productions such as The Merchant of Venice and The Comedy of Errors during her time at drama school, having graduated in 2020 with a BA in Acting.

She’s been confirmed as part of the cast of Jack Thorne’s upcoming BBC drama, Best Interests, alongside Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen. This will air in 2023.

Her actor boyfriend Eanna Hardwick appeared in Normal People as Rob, a close friend of Paul’s character Connell, who takes his own life.

Who does she play in Conversations With Friends?

She plays Frances, who went to school with her best friend Bobbi.

The pair are still inseparable, despite deciding to end their relationship, and still have an undeniably strong bond.

Frances creates the poetry she performs on stage with Bobbi, which catches the attention of writer Melissa, who is keen to get to know the pair better.

But when they all intertwine, it becomes clear there’s much more at play, as Frances begins to fall for Nick.

The series will follow the story of their affair, and how it impacts the lives of both pairings.

When is Conversations With Friends released?

Conversations with Friends comes to BBC iPlayer next Sunday, May 15.

All 12 half-hour-long episodes will be available to watch from 6am on this date.

It will also be streamed in the US via Hulu.
