Linda Rayfield has become the latest contestant to be eliminated from The Great British Bake Off 2020 after crumbling during pastry week.
The halfway point of the competition, Linda was given their marching orders after failing to impress in the latest series of challenges.
Speaking after the elimination, Linda told the cameras: ‘I can’t really be sad. I’ve been a child at Disneyland really.
‘It’s been amazing. one of the highlights of my life.’
Prue expressed her sadness at seeing Linda go, but said: ‘She’s a very good baker – but she had a terrible week.’
‘I know I can bake, I just hadn’t done enough,’ Linda said. ‘I am so proud of myself.’
This week, the remaining bakers were told to create cornish pasties for their signature challenge, before creating crème patisserie eclairs for the technical.
For the showstopper, they had to create a tart that was trapped within a pastry cage.
Despite declaring at the beginning of the episode that pastry week would be ‘her’ week, Linda was seen struggling with all three of the tasks.
She came last in the technical challenge after failing to create a choux pastry that would rise, and failed to put any creme pat in her cakes.
In the final challenge, her cage crumbled, and she had to present her tart uncaged and was the only person to show the judges no cage at all, with Mark delivering a broken one.
While Linda went home, Laura was crowned Star Baker after being consistently praised by the judges.
The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
