Britain’s Got Talent 2023 has been a fantastic series, with singers, dancing acts, comedians, magicians, and a diverse range of other artists competing to impress the judges.
But all good things must come to an end, and the grand final on Sunday night (June 4) will determine this year’s champion.
The evening will include ten artists from the live semi-finals, as well as a wild card act chosen by the judges, contending for a place in the Britain’s Got Talent hall of fame. Among those vying for the title are dancer Musa Motha, comedian Viggo Venn, adolescent opera vocalist Malakai Bayoh, teen magician Cillian O’Connor, and dance ensemble Ghetto Boys.
Many of the series’ performers, including Diversity, Susan Boyle, Ashleigh and Pudsey, Collabro, and Richard Jones, have gone on to significant success after their initial appearance.
But who is the current winner of the show? And what is the prize for this year’s series winner?
Who won Britain’s Got Talent 2022?
Axel was left a little lost for words after Ant and Dec announced his name, saying: ‘I’m shaking, thank you everyone for voting for me… I can’t believe it.’
After learning that he got a comedy special show on Amazon’s streaming service after filming it at his 2018 headline performance, I’m Not Gonna Lie, at The Indigo at the O2 Arena, the comedian’s success sparked some criticism.
However Axel has addressed the issue, saying last year: ‘They don’t know my history and whatnot, so I ignored that, focused, it wasn’t someone had put my special online for me, it wasn’t like me and Amazon had a deal and a contract and loads of money, it didn’t work like that, so it was just up there for a few years on a lease and that was it.
‘But apparently no one can go on BGT with experience!’
Axel is on tour across the UK in April, as well as playing two dates at London’s Leicester Square Theatre on May 7 and 15.
What does the winner of Britain’s Got Talent get?
The winner of Britain’s Got Talent receives a £250,000 reward as well as a spot on the programme at this year’s Royal Variety Performance, which will take place in November.
The yearly variety show generates funds for the Royal Variety Charity, and senior members of the Royal Family typically attend; for example, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie attended the 2022 performance.
The reward hasn’t altered much since the programme debuted in 2007, with the Royal Variety Performance spot available from the first season.
When the show began, the first-place winner received a £100,000 payment.
The prize money reached a record high of £500,000 in 2012, but has since dropped to £250,000.
The Britain’s Got Talent grand final is on ITV on Sunday night from 7.30pm.
