My Celebrity Life

Who won last year’s I’m a Celebrity and when is the 2021 final?

It’s nearly time for the 2021 final and a new King or Queen – but who was last year’s champion? (Picture: ITV)

Last year’s series of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here was a bit different than usual – due to the Covid pandemic, the 2020 series was the first time the show moved from the Australian jungle to a Welsh castle.

This year, ITV kept the action in the castle, due to ongoing Australia travel restrictions.

Contestants this year who braved the brisk Wales weather (on top of the usual Bushtucker trials) included Olympian Matty Lee, football legend David Ginola, Strictly’s Arlene Phillips and musician Naughty Boy.

Richard Madeley did enter the castle, but had to leave after a few short days due to a health emergency.

After some shock exits and some iconic trials, either Frankie Bridge, Simon Gregson or Danny Miller will be crowned as the King or Queen of the Castle in the final.

But who will they be succeeding? Let’s remind ourselves of who won I’m A Celebrity back in 2020…

Who won I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here 2020?

A cast of 12 British stars travelled to freezing Gwrych Castle in Wales, with only one emerging as Queen of the Castle.

It was… author and podcaster Giovanna Fletcher!

Mum blogger Giovanna – who shares sons Buzz, Buddy and Max with McFly singer Tom Fletcher – won over the public’s affection for her warm and caring nature.

She was often a shoulder to cry on, or a listening ear, for the other celebrities throughout the show.

The finale episode saw Giovanna win the biggest share of a whopping 12 million votes – with some of those going to runner-up Jordan North, a BBC1 radio host.

Vernon Kay, presenter of All Star Family Fortunes and other ITV game/reality shows, came in a respectable third place.

Meanwhile, some of the longest-surviving campmates were EastEnders icon Shane Ritchie, Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah and ex-Strictly dancer AJ Pritchard.

EastEnders actor Jessica Plummer, opera star Russell Watson and news broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire managed to outstay co-stars Beverley Callard of Coronation Street fame, theatre performer Ruthie Henshall and Paralympian Hollie Arnold – who went home first.

Unfortunately, Giovanna didn’t receive the title ‘Queen of the Jungle’ – due to the obvious lack of an Australian jungle.

But she was crowned the first-ever ‘Queen of the Castle’ (with a crown and sceptre) in the last moments of the 2020 series.

Who is favourite to win I’m a Celebrity 2021?

After David Ginola, a long-time favourite to win the show, was the eighth contestant voted off, the bookies now have Emmerdale’s Danny Miller as the frontrunner.

Odds from William Hill have Miller at 11/10 to win.

He is closely followed by Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson at 11/8, and finally Frankie Bridge – who has already won in one sense, she lasted longer than her husband Wayne Bridge – is at 5/1.

The I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! final airs tonight from 9pm on ITV
