Kay Burley’s Sky News morning show often sparks commentary from viewers at home, but recently, many have been concerned about an outfit choice, questioning why she is wearing trainers during her daily programme.

Today, and every day this week in fact, Kay has been opting for comfy trainers, to the amusement and wonder of those watching at home.

‘Is Kay Burley going on a run straight after work, why the trainers?’ one person wrote on Twitter.

Another added: ‘I noticed the trainers and thought it was a brilliant idea, much more practical than heels.’

But the reason behind Kay’s new foot attire is more than just a simple outfit choice.

In fact, Kay, who has worked for Sky News since 1988, has actually broken her foot, so needs the comfortable footwear.

Kay explained: ‘Regular viewers know I have broken my foot.’

Some viewers have been quick to share their support for the trainers, with one writing: ‘If Kay Burley can wear trainers to read the news can I finally wear them in secondary education?’

Another penned: ‘I’m loving @KayBurley in trainers lately, makes her look a bit more comfortable and showing me what else I can wear my trainers with.’

In the past, Kay has spoken about the struggles of wearing heels while presenting all day.

‘[They] are essential if I’m to have any screen presence,’ she once told Mail Online.

‘While I adore my sexy 6in-heel LK Bennett courts, I’d love a pair which make my working day less of a torture.

‘I’ve always found cushioned soles and round-toed shoes far too fuddy-duddy.’
