BBC Breakfast viewers have been surprised to see Dan Walker absent from their screens this week as the show returns after Christmas – but Dan has assured them that ‘there’s no shake up’.
The presenter normally hosts the show with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday, but Ben Thompson took over on Tuesday and Jon Kay is co-hosting the show today.
However, the presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star has told fans that he’s not been replaced or left the programme, but that he’s simply not on this week.
Writing on Twitter, Dan said: ‘Just so you know… I haven’t left #BBCBreakfast, I haven’t “taken some time out after Strictly” and there hasn’t been a “major presenter shake-up” I’m just not in this week.’
Fans were confused by Ben’s appearance on Tuesday, especially after he announced his departure from BBC Breakfast in December.
‘I’m hanging up my @BBCBreakfast hard hat and hi-vis in the New Year, so here’s a little thread of some of my ten years on the road, getting access to some of the most interesting and amazing businesses, and taking you with us,’ he announced last month.
‘Starting out was terrifying but I quickly learned that you’re in safe hands with the brilliant @BBCBreakfast team.’
It’s been a big 12 months for Dan, who surprised himself after making it through to the quarter-finals on Strictly Come Dancing.
Recently, fans couldn’t help but wonder whether he would challenge himself further on Dancing On Ice.
The presenter, 44, was the 10th celebrity eliminated from the hit dance programme, however when asked by a fan whether he would participate on ‘the greatest show on ice’, he hinted it would be a possibility on one condition – if professional Strictly partner Nadiya Bychkova does it too.
BBC Breakfast airs on weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
