Why isn’t Noel Fielding on The Great British Bake Off Christmas special?

The Great British Bake Off’s annual festivities are kicking off tonight – but there’ll be one face missing from the regular line-up.

Host Noel Fielding will be leaving an elf-shaped hole in the tent, as returning stars try their luck at being Christmas champion.

But he has a pretty good reason, we promise!

Here’s why he’s not around, and who’s replacing him.

Why isn’t Noel Fielding On Bake Off’s Christmas special ?

Noel Fielding was unable to film the Bake Off Christmas special as at the time of filming in October, he was on paternity leave following the birth of his second child.

Comedian Tom Allen, w hosts Bake Off: The Professionals and is a regular face on spin-off chat show The Great British Bake Off: Extra Slice, was later announced to be stepping in.

When he was announced as Noel’s replacement, Tom quipped: ‘Finally, bald gay men are getting their chance on television.’

Tom will join co-host Matt Lucas as well as judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Alexandra Burke will be stopping by to give a special performance of Silent Night.

The move has been given the seal of approval by previous stars including Michael Chakraverty, our resident columnist and 2019 Bake Off contestant.

Who is appearing on the Great British Bake Off’s Festive specials?

There are two festive specials of The Great British Bake Off this year – one for Christmas Eve and one for New Years – and both will feature fan favourites back for another attempt at glory.

Christmas Eve will see James Hillery from 2017, Ruby Bhogal from 2018 and Jamie Finn and Rosie Brandreth-Poynter from the 2019 series.

Noel will be back in time for the New Year’s Eve special, where 2019’s Helena Garcia and Henry Bird will return to compete against Nancy Birtwhistle from 2014, and 2018 winner Rahul Mandal.

Stepping back into the tent for the New Year’s special are Both Matt and Noel will present.
