Strictly Come Dancing is one of many reality TV shows currently filming that could be affected by the on-going coronavirus pandemic and the rules that have been introduced for people’s safety.
Now that England has begun a new four week period of lockdown across the nation, many people will be settling in for nights in front of TV instead of out at local restaurants, bars and pubs.
But can shows including Strictly Come Dancing continue now that the majority of the UK is living under new lockdown rules?
Will Strictly Come Dancing be on today?
Strictly Come Dancing is on today, Saturday November 7, and will air as usual at 7.25pm tonight on BBC One.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has confirmed that TV and film production can continue during the second lockdown in England that will last for four weeks throughout November.
As a result Strictly Come Dancing can carry on filming despite the new lockdown rules in England.
How will Strictly Come Dancing be affected by the new lockdown rules?
The show must go on, despite the second lockdown now in force across England, but in order to keep filming the celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners have had to form bubbles so they can continue to rehearse and perform in a way that is Covid safe.
Lockdown rules in England also mean that the show has had to go ahead without a studio audience for the first time ever.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood revealed on The Jonathan Ross Show that the lack of studio audience is ‘quite difficult’ while contestant Clara Amfo admitted she was ‘a bit gutted’ the live audience part of the show has had to be scrapped.
Speaking on Morning Live today the Radio 1 DJ confessed: ‘ Having your friends and family to cheer you on really adds to the experience, but I think the main thing is that the show itself is still on.’
‘That’s what we’re all extremely happy about – the show brings so much joy to so many people, particularly this year, I think we’ve needed it more than ever – I know that’s the reason why I said yes, please let me just dance it out. The escapism.’
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday November 7 at 7.25pm on BBC One.
