Will there be a Love Island 2022 winter edition?

Love Island returned for its seventh series on June 28, after being off air since February 2020.

The sixth series, which aired between January and February 2020 was supposed to be first of two seasons broadcast in 2020 with this one dubbed the Winter Love Island.

This series was the first to be hosted by Laura Whitmore, replacing the late Caroline Flack who had stepped down from hosting duties prior to her death.

The summer show in 2020 was set to air in June as normal, however, Covid put a stop to that, and the winter edition became the only one to air that year.

So, as the current series finale looms, will fans be getting a second Love Island fix this year?

Will there be a new Winter Love Island?

As things stand, it’s not known whether or not there will be a winter edition of the show.

However, earlier in the year a spokesperson confirmed to Digital Spy that one wasn’t currently in the works, saying: ‘We are currently focusing on the forthcoming summer series.’

But of course, anything can change.

Despite the first (and for now, only) winter series of the show giving ITV2 its best ever January and February ratings with an average 3.1m viewers, the winter series didn’t return in early 2021.

Show bosses decided to focus on bringing the summer edition back for a bumper edition instead.

At the time, a spokesperson for the show confirmed to MailOnline the focus was on the summer 2021 edition.

‘Love Island UK will return bigger and better than ever with an extended run in summer 2021.’
