A woman on Channel 4’s no-holds-barred show Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts stunned the hosts when she claimed she sometimes spend weeks without pooing.
Emerald, 36, paid a visit to the ‘Poo HQ’ in the new series, presented by identical twins Alana and Lisa Macfarlane, to speak up about her gastrointestinal troubles.
‘Sometimes it can be a couple of weeks, and then I’m becoming bloated, I’m getting gassy,’ the vintage model added.
‘Perhaps once a month, I get a nasty bowel when I’m in a lot of discomfort and it feels like I’m constipated or just swollen. I don’t come from a family that talks about such things. It’s just awkward.’
Emerald’s disclosure regarding her lack of toilet activity left Alana and Lisa stunned during their conversation.
She noted that it might pose problems in her field of work as a model since she may appear swollen for photoshoots, and it has also had an influence on her social life.
Emerald made a visit to a nutritionist on the show, confessing that she was concerned about potential long-term ‘harm’ to her body.
After giving a stool sample, it was determined that the model had ‘a lot of microorganisms associated with anxiety, low mood, and ADHD’.
Furthermore, the dietician emphasised that onions and garlic might cause bloating, which prompted Emerald to acknowledge that she uses garlic in practically everything she cooks.
Emerald took part in a transit time test after being advised to avoid onions and garlic before her photoshoots and to change the position in which she sat on the toilet. She was given a muffin that had been dyed blue with food colouring to see how long it would take to pass from her mouth to the other end.
Emerald returned to Poo HQ six weeks later, revealing that she can now poo two to three times per week, and even had four consecutive days where she was able to.
She observed a difference after eliminating garlic from her diet and relaxing her body when she went to the toilet.
Emerald also revealed that it took approximately 60 hours for the blue muffin to exit the transit test, with the dietician noting that the goal would be to reduce that time to 30 hours, which could be accomplished by consuming sweetcorn.
Emerald is ‘hardly bloated and still pooing numerous times a week,’ according to a title board at the end of the show, and has now purchased a toilet stool to help with the posture in which she sits on the toilet, which she takes with her.
