X-Men fans convinced Sir Ian McKellen will reprise role as Magneto as huge cameo teased for WandaVision

X-Men fans have got a theory that Sir Ian McKellen could be set to reprise his role as Magneto as Elizabeth Olsen teased that WandaVision will feature a huge cameo.

The Disney+ series has kicked off in style, with fans obsessed with the quirky story based around Elizabeth’s character, Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlett Witch.

However, the actress, and showrunner Jac Schaeffer, have teased there are more surprises to come.

Elizabeth confirmed to TV Line that there has been a casting that she’s excited for that fans don’t know about yet, while Jac said: ‘I encourage all fans to settle in, because there’s more coming.’

Viewers have taken their comments and run with them, suggesting they could be referring to another Marvel Cinematic Universe character appearing, or even a moment similar to Luke Skywalker’s surprise appearance in The Mandalorian.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed, but top of the list of fan guesses is Sir Ian reprising his role as Magneto, since the character was, at one point in the comics, written to be Wanda’s father.

‘This feels TOO BIG but Magneto…coming to rescue his daughter???’ one suggested on Twitter, while another added: ‘So it’s either Magneto (Ian Mckellen) or Quicksilver (ATJ) [Aaron Taylor-Johnson]’.

‘I can’t handle these theories that Ian McKellen is going to show up as Magneto on #WandaVision,’ one more said.

Only time will tell whether Sir Ian is willing to return to the role.

His last appearance as Magneto was for X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.

The 81-year-old’s first appearance in the franchise, alongside the likes of Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) was for X-Men in 2000.

However, while Sir Ian is the most popular guess related to the mystery casting, he’s certainly not the only one.

Who else could make a cameo appearance in WandaVision?

Of course, it wouldn’t have to be Sir Ian reprising his role for Magneto to return – we could see the comeback of Michael Fassbender’s younger version of the character.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver is another popular guess, since the character is Wanda’s brother in the comics – and this has been upheld in the MCU.

He’s the most recent actor to play the character, appearing alongside Elizabeth as Pietro Maximoff, also known as Quicksilver, in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Evan Peters is also in the running, after he played Quicksilver in the X-Men movies, although it seems less likely given Aaron’s history in the MCU.

‘Give me quicksilver,’ one fan wrote in response to the news, while another added: ‘Why is no one guessing Quicksilver It doesn’t align with the Luke Skywalker thing but surely she would want to bring her brother back too.’

However, others have argued that Quicksilver doesn’t quite equal the ‘Luke Skywalker of the MCU’ hint, and are thinking bigger, with guesses like Chris Evans as Captain America or Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

‘I swear if it’s Doctor strange….’ one fan said, while another added: ‘It’s gotta be Dr Strange.’

Meanwhile, other guesses include Mephisto and Ultron.

WandaVision is available to stream on Disney+.
