Zara McDermott’s Strictly Come Dancing adventure ended on Sunday night, as she reportedly blamed her elimination on her TV career.
Zara was sent home by the four judges during Halloween week after competing against Adam Thomas, who joined her in the bottom two during the weekend.
During Saturday’s live broadcast, the former Love Island star and her dance partner Graziano Di Prima landed at the bottom of the table with only 25 points.
Her withdrawal may not have surprised many at home, but Zara was projected to reach the final stages by bookies at the start of the season.
After being voted out at the midway point, the documentary maker and Made in Chelsea actress reportedly blamed her expulsion on her history with reality television.
‘Zara has tried hard to shake off that label she was given after she starred on Love Island, making waves with her BBC documentary,’ a source told The Sun.
‘She comes from a show about hot boys and girls hooking up, so while Zara was pushed as the one to watch – she’s [not] been well received by the show’s fans.’
The source continued: ‘Zara is absolutely devastated to be out. She gave her heart and soul to Strictly and it pushed her massively out of her comfort zone.’
‘Ultimately, she’s still remembered as a reality star and she feels that viewers just couldn’t get past her being an ex-Love Island contestant,’ they added.
When questioned by host Tess Daly about her experience in the competition, Zara reflected warmly on her time with Graziano.
‘I have had the time of my life. Just to be here is incredible. Thank you to the judges and my amazing partner obviously,’ she told the studio audience.
‘My fellow contestants are just incredible. It has been an amazing experience. I can’t believe it’s over but I am going to be here in spirit every week.’
Zara was informed by the judges that she had a ‘fighting spirit’ after being sent home by a unanimous vote, but Adam survived to fight another day.
