Billie Eilish hopes her new album Happier Than Ever won’t disappoint fans after it already set a record days before its release.
When the singer was told her upcoming album broke Apple Music records, becoming the most pre-added album in the platform’s history, with over 1 million fans eager to listen to it upon release, the singer struggled to keep her excitement in check.
‘That’s nuts!’ she burst out on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1. ‘Wow, that’s nuts. Hell ya, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.’
It’s not a surprise though since her first album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, was a multi-platinum worldwide hit and fans have been waiting over two years for Billie’s second LP to drop.
As the Bad Guy singer prepares for the July 30 debut of her second album, she also spoke about her relationship with her fans, insisting that despite the gap in her albums she’s ‘been here the whole time’.
The Grammy-winner said: ‘I really want to not make them feel like I’m gone, you know, cuz I’m not, I’m right here and I’ve been here the whole time.
‘I think the hard thing is that we haven’t done shows, I haven’t had a way to actually prove to them that I’m still theirs. And I think that that’s tough and I think that it’s made them go crazy and I totally understand it and I feel the same. It’s made me go crazy too.’
The 19-year-old star also confessed that: ‘It’s been really, really destructive to not have shows and not be able to see them in person and hold them and hug them and talk to them and do all the things I want to do.’
While it might still be a while till Billie will get to go on tour, she has a few virtual events lined up in the coming weeks.
On Saturday the pop sensation will be interviewed by BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo for a TV special titled Billie Eilish: Up Close, set to air on BBC One at 10.30pm.
This 45-minute entertainment special, filmed in Billie’s hometown of Los Angeles, will see Billie chat about her new album, her extraordinary rise to fame, looking back at her remarkable success, the effect it has had on her life and her role as an inspiration for young people all over the world.
Billie is also set to make her BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge debut with her session airing also on Saturday, July 31 from 11.15pm on BBC iPlayer.
Finally, the star announced that she is premiering her cinematic concert experience, Happier than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, exclusively on Disney Plus on September 3.
The concert experience will feature an intimate performance of every song on the album from the stage of the legendary Hollywood Bowl.
Speaking of the event, Billie said: ‘Disney is incredibly iconic, so to collaborate on something like this is a huge honour. To be able to present my album in this way and dedicate it to the city that I love and grew up in is so exciting to me. I hope you love it.’
