Jesy Nelson has announced her ‘next chapter’ after quitting Little Mix eight months ago.
The 30-year-old left the girl band in December 2020 to focus on her mental health, with Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock continuing as a trio.
Now, Jesy has signalled the impending release of solo music, after she wiped her Instagram account.
In a video shared with her 8.2million followers, the singer is heard saying: ‘For me, this is the music that I’ve always wanted to make. I don’t think that anyone’s gonna expect this.
‘This is the new chapter for me.
‘If you genuinely believe something enough and you want it to happen, you can make it happen. You can manifest it.’
Jesy is seen posing for shoots, recording in a studio and being styled on set, with the clip ending with a loading bar.
She captioned the video: ‘The next chapter…’
Fans and friends celebrated her comeback in the comments, with friend and model Felicity Hayward commenting: ‘THEY AIN’T READY.’
While Jesy has teased that fans won’t expect her solo style, there have been reports that her music could be similar to that of her former band.
A source suggested to The Sun that Jesy’s new music could be divisive due to ‘a song and an image that could have been taken from the Little Mix playbook’, and said: ‘Jesy’s new video shoot could have been a Little Mix single, it’s packed with choreography and the style is very similar too.
‘Her new label wanted to strike while the iron is hot, but the other girls are just going to wonder why on earth she had to quit the band if she was going to come back a matter of months later with a style that looks almost identical.’
It is believed Jesy’s first single will be released next month (Picture: Instagram)
We’ll have to wait and see, as Jesy’s first solo single is expected to be dropped next month.
The Power singer filmed the video for the as yet unnamed single last week, and parts of the Instagram clip, in which Jesy is dressed in an all-white outfit, are believed to be from the video shoot.
Since Jesy left the band, Little Mix have re-recorded and released the single Confetti, reached the UK top five with their Galantis and David Guetta collaboration Heartbreak Anthem, and won a Brit Award for best British group, for which they thanked Jesy for in their speech.
Perrie and Leigh-Anne have also announced their pregnancies, and are expecting their first children this year.
Jesy formed Little Mix with the other girls on The X Factor in 2011, and remained in the band for nine years until she left last year.
The star, who has been vocal about her struggles with mental health and trolling, said: ‘The truth is recently being in the band has really token a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard,’ she continued.
‘There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.’Credit: Original article published here.
