Nikki Manashe, Alex Reid’s fiancee, has offered a positive update after being taken to the hospital earlier this week with major pregnancy issues.
Former Celebrity Big Brother contestants Alex and Nikki are expecting twins after undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF), a procedure in which the female egg is fertilised in a laboratory.
The couple, who already have a one-year-old daughter named Anastasia, were dealt a troubling blow 18 weeks into Nikki’s pregnancy when her waters leaked.
Alex, 47, had implored supporters to ‘just pray for my family’ because he was afraid of losing his unborn children.
Nikki, 36, later updated her followers, saying she was still bleeding and will face some awful events in the coming days, including going into early labour and physicians struggling to preserve both her and her twins’ lives.
She said that she began to bleed because she has a ‘low-lying placenta’ and one of her twins’ waters had ruptured.
She then confessed that she was considering having the twins aborted in order to save her own life, or having them delivered prematurely, meaning they would not survive.
Another alternative was to rescue one baby and “lose the infant that has lost the fluid,” while the second – and more hopeful – possibility is that both kids would live through 22 weeks with medical assistance.
On Friday, the future was looking somewhat more optimistic for Nikki and Alex, with the social media sensation announcing on Instagram that she had already crossed the 72 hour mark, ‘which is a major positive’.
She wrote: ‘Doctors warned me I was highly likely to to give birth naturally in the labour ward from 24-72 hours after my waters broke from twin A. But that risk has now been lowered and I’ve now been moved to the anti natal ward and am being monitored every 4 hours.
‘Doctors are keeping an eye on my health as waters have broke and I’m at a high risk of catching an infection.’
She went on: ‘As it stands I feel ok, my babies are fighting with very strong heart beats and we just have to take it day by day.’
Nikki then urged her supporters to keep her children in their thoughts and prayers.
Alex and Nikki, who married in 2014, have been candid about their IVF experience over the previous seven years, during which they used the procedure to conceive their daughter Anastasia and endured five losses.
Alex, who was previously married to Katie Price, and Nikki had their first child together, Anastasia, in July 2021.
That happened after Nikki had her fifth miscarriage in 2019 with their kid, Phoenix.
