Billie Eilish has shown a gigantic new tattoo, but no one can figure out what it is.
Last month, the Bad Guy singer, 21, suggested that she had gone under the needle when she showed a peek of a massive black tattoo on the back of her neck that was disappearing beneath her collar.
Billie has now shown it in all its splendour, but the complicated design has left admirers more perplexed than before.
In a snapshot, the I Love You singer – real name Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell – was seen lying on her stomach with a freshly-done tattoo – so fresh that black ink was spread across her flesh – on her torso.
The enormous pattern spans from the top of her neck to the bottom of her back and is etched straight on her spine, one of the most painful areas to receive a tattoo.
Billie’s ink consists of a succession of tiny black lines, most of which are related but some of which extend out on their own, crisscrossing over each other with no discernible pattern.
Fans reacted angrily to the tattoo unveiling, yelling the word ‘TATTOO’ in all capitals in the comments area of her Instagram photo.
Many more, on the other hand, were left with one burning question: what precisely is it?
One Twitter user posted a photo of the new tattoo and asked simply: ‘What the hell is it?’, to the tune of a cool 32,000 likes.
Hundreds of other comments along the lines of ‘What is it?’, ‘what am I looking at?’, and ‘I’m going to need this explained to me.’
Billie frequently posts photos on Instagram with no titles or explanations, and she recently aroused alarm among admirers when she shared a photo of herself with what seemed to be a black eye.
It’s unknown whether the bruised appearance was caused by an accident or by makeup, but when fans questioned it in the comments area, the singer remained silent.
Billie’s injury was accompanied with photos of her excursions, which ranged from seeing a lightning storm over a metropolis to touring an art gallery.
The What Am I Made For singer isn’t the only star making news recently for their tattoo choices; Britney Spears, who recently divorced, had several new pieces done while on vacation in Mexico.
Britney went on vacation with friends in September after Sam Asghari filed for divorce 14 months into their marriage.
While there, she had many minor tattoos, including a red star, dots on her fingers, and a snake, the significance of which enthusiasts hurried to analyse.
She posted a video of herself receiving the tattoo in a flat, reclining backwards on a chair to allow the tattoo artist to work on her back.
Fans have been discussing the significance of the tattoo, with some speculating that it represents betrayal and distrust – or, as one fan put it,’she’s been carrying snakes on her back her whole life.’
Others thought it was a nod to one of her “most legendary performances” – who can forget Britney taking the stage with a python wrapped over her shoulders at the 2001 VMAs?
