Chesney Hawkes, a musician, cried as he talked to his children for what he feared was the last time before a jet he was on plummeted thousands of feet.
The musical musician, 51, best known for his hit “The One and Only,” was on vacation with his wife Krissy on Monday when their flight seemed to be in trouble.
They were flying from Greece to Barcelona when, without abruptly, oxygen masks fell from the sky – and the plane began to fall.
In a new interview, he remembered the horrific incident, revealing that he “felt we were going down.”
‘The pilot came over the loudspeaker and said, “Emergency descent — brace.”
Air hostesses were frantically trying to get masks on their face, one ‘in a foetal position on the floor,’ and the plane was ‘rattling’ and began an extremely steep descent, as people around them became ‘hysterical.’
He and Krissy, 48, both feared it may be the end, and sent a voicemail on the family WhatsApp group to their three young children, ‘both sobbing [as] we told the kids how proud we were of them and how much we loved them.
After descending 20,000 feet in six minutes, the jet abruptly paused and was rerouted to Naples, Italy, according to Chesney.
Fortunately, the couple was able to delete the voicemail before their young children Casey, Jesse, and Indi heard it.
And before long, their spirits were restored when they touched down, with Chesney even grabbing the pilot for a selfie and dubbing him ‘captain wonderful.’
He wrote on Twitter: ‘Thanku 2 all that kept their heads cool, especially #captainfantastic for landing our plane safely 2day. This was not what we expected 2day, but it’s made us appreciate life and those we love just that little bit more (sic).’
