The UK’s contender for Eurovision 2024, Olly Alexander, has sparked a frenzy of speculation.
Years & Years frontman, 33, made the shocking statement during the final of Strictly Come Dancing.
He also resorted to social media to make the news, sharing a short video of himself in front of a London backdrop. According to observant admirers, this was no ordinary background.
‘Hello Europe and Australia,’ the It’s A Sin star remarked in it. Olly Alexander is calling. I can’t believe I’m about to announce it, but I’m the UK’s Eurovision entry. I can’t believe it; I’m overjoyed. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’
@imshanereaction shared a screenshot of the video, which saw Big Ben in the background, and a red phone booth with some suspect emoji plastered all over it.
‘CORRECTING my dyslexic self,’ said the fan with a wild big of investigative work. ‘The Olly Alexander video features the numbers 4 26 26 25. The correlating letters are D Z Z Y. The big hand of the clock is at I. The [dizzy emoji] is on the phone box. The UK’s entry is called Dizzy.’
Indeed, the X user does seem to have an interesting theory.
Fellow Eurovision fans couldn’t help but applaud their fellow truth warrior, as @pucamusic commented: ‘I can’t see how u could be wrong. Impressed.’
‘Have you ever considered a job at Her Majesty’s MI5?’ chimed in @jnoley.
@ESCsophie said: ‘Very decent detective work! Certainly got some substance behind it.’
Night Call is the title of Olly’s band Years & Years’ third studio album, and these words, as well as a mystery 4, can be seen on the phone box in the video. Very fascinating, indeed.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, in the thread Olly said he was ‘determined to give it everything I’ve got’.
‘I shall put on an excellent and unforgettable performance for you all! Let’s do this!!!’ he continued.
Olly is already well-known in Europe for singles like as Desire, King, and If You’re Over Me.
He also starred in Channel 4’s drama It’s A Sin, for which he received a nomination for Leading Actor at the 2022 Bafta Television Awards.
‘I love Eurovision so much, it’s a dream come true,’ he told Strictly host Claudia Winkleman during the show.
‘I’m just so, so excited.’
Following Loreen’s victory in Liverpool in May, the tournament will be conducted in Malmo, Sweden, next year.
