Hilary Duff revealed she is pregnant in a Christmas letter.
The 36-year-old How I Met Your Father and Lizzie McGuire star confirmed her family is growing in an exceedingly charming Instagram picture that originally left admirers guessing.
The first slide depicts a Christmas card photo of herself, her son, her two children, and her husband Matthew Koma all dressed up.
With a closer look, the frame around the photograph bears the words: ‘So much for a silent night’ – while Hilary is seen to be cradling a bump and looking shocked.
The next slide showed multiple adorable snaps of her family, along with a little message: ‘Buckle up, buttercups! We’re adding one more to this crazy crew!’
And in a caption, the mum-to-be wrote: ‘Surprise surprise!’
Fans flocked to the comments to congratulate the family, with user Onekingslane saying ‘this is what dreams are made of! Congratulations to your growing family!’
User Teresa King said ‘aww how cute, congratulations’ while Post.Partyy said ‘yayyy congrats beauty!’
And only1dharti shared her own story, writing: ‘ Congratulations!!! I’m one of four siblings… I wish you all luck, 😂 but also know- it’s so fun having a built in friend group!’
Hilary already has an 11-year-old son, Luca, from her marriage to Mike Comrie, and two children with husband Matthew.
Banks, the couple’s first child, was born in 2019, and Mae arrived two years later.
It’s a happy ending to a year that began with a significant disappointment when How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Father was axed after two seasons.
Hilary featured as Sophie in the sitcom, which also starred Kim Catrall as her elder self.
The cancellation means that viewers will never know out who Sophie’s son’s father is, which is disappointing in and of itself.
Hilary, on the other hand, had harsh words for anyone who rejoiced over the cancellation, and ruthlessly slammed an Instagram commenter who branded the programme ‘cringe’.
The celebrity, who has 26 million Instagram followers, simply commented, ‘You have 63 followers.’
Hilary previously stated that she was concerned about doing a sequel to such a popular series.
‘When I first got the call about the role, I was like, “What’s the title? No, no, no, no!” Way too intimidating. Way too much pressure because HIMYM was so dialled-in, so beloved and the cast was amazing,’ she recalled.
‘But I was talking to the producers and they said they were not trying to re-enact anything and it really is a brilliant way to tell a story.’
