We are genuinely excited for Jennifer Coolidge to be named a “comedic genius” at the MTV Movie and TV Awards.
The 61-year-old has won the top prize at the ceremony after her performances in the second season of the White Lotus had us all in giggles and later in tears.
This week, MTV executives announced the announcement in advance of the event, which will take place on May 7 at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.
According to the network, the prized award “honours actors who have made incomparable contributions to the world of comedy, providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre at large.”
Previous winners include Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart, and Melissa McCarthy, so Jennifer is following in some pretty funny shoes.
Not bad at all.
Tom Cruise, Selena Gomez, Harry Styles, Joseph Quinn, and Keke Palmer are among the celebrities nominated for honours, while Drew Barrymore will serve as the event’s presenter.
For her performance as Tanya McQuoid on the White Lotus, the actress won a Golden Globe, a SAG award, and a Critics’ Choice award during the most recent awards season.
At the celebration last month, Jane Lynch surprised her by giving her the GLAAD social impact award.
On the HBO comedy’s first season, Jennifer quickly won over the audience’s affections. In season two, she made a second visit to the now-famous hotel chain.
It wasn’t exactly the idyllic getaway that her character was hoping for, and in the closing seconds of the season finale, she died while trying to flee a boat after discovering a covert plan to have her killed.
Viewers have been anxiously grabbing at any notion that may predict Tanya’s comeback ever since the episode aired.
When Jennifer recently confirmed that she probably won’t be staying at a White Lotus resort in season three, it broke everyone’s hopes.
‘He sort of sticks to his guns,’ she told E! News of creator Mike White. ‘He’s an amazing friend, but I think he made his decision.
‘He wanted a big, dramatic, Italian operatic ending for White Lotus 2, and he wanted to sacrifice Tanya.’
