Jim Carrey made a rare social media appearance to celebrate his 62nd birthday in style, surrounded by comic legends.
The Hollywood favourite has been in the limelight for decades due to his stellar cinematic career, which includes roles in The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Truman Show, among others.
However, he has stepped back from the public glare, announcing that he planned to retire in 2022 after the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, preferring to focus on his ‘peaceful life’.
After rumours said that people closest to him were concerned about his’reclusive’ lifestyle, it appears that nothing could be farther from the truth as he went all out for his birthday festivities.
Jeff Ross shared fresh Instagram photographs from the evening, showing Jim having a great time with his friends.
Adam Sandler, Jimmy Kimmel, David Spade, Seth Green, Craig Robinson, Ben Schwartz, and Howie Mandel were among the celebrities that attended the birthday party.
The ‘Roastmaster’ captioned the upload: ‘The Laugh Supper! Happy birthday, Jim Carrey! We adore you!
We believe our invitation got misplaced in the mail.
Fans couldn’t get enough of the post and showered the foursome with adulation in the comments section.
‘Telling my kids this was Jesus Christ and his apostles #legendary,’ one joked.
Another agreed: ‘I’m hanging this in my dining room.’
‘Oh my god this is so epic I can’t even take it. This is like the last supper of comedians,’ an impressed poster said.
A commenter penned: ‘Damn – so many legends at one table.’
As David, who could be seen poking his head up at the back, joked: ‘Why is Spade so camera shy?’
Jim has commanded a cinematic career spanning five decades, starring in iconic films and receiving two Golden Globe awards and several nominations throughout the years.
He most recently played Dr. Ivo Robotnik in 2022’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which might be his final appearance.
Speaking to Access Hollywood last year after Dolly Parton voiced her desire to have him star in a film of her life, the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind star said: ‘Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious.
‘It depends, if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road but I’m taking a break.
‘I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life.
‘I feel like, and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough’.
