Joe Sugg waltzed his way to the Strictly Come Dancing final, and while he didn’t win the Glitterball trophy, he did win partner Dianne Buswell’s heart, and he confessed he still enjoys dancing with the show’s regular professional.
When he laced up his dance shoes and foxtrotted for BBC viewers for weeks on end in 2018, the 31-year-old YouTuber developed muscles he didn’t realise he possessed.
He wasn’t quite ready to take a clean break after leaving the programme, so he became the presenter of Strictly Come Dancing: The Official Podcast, sticking his toe in the pool for the foreseeable future.
In addition to debating with co-host Kim Winston, the celebrity claimed that he found another strategy to keep the Strictly blues at away.
Joe restrained a grin as he revealed his secret meeting location with his girlfriend Dianne, 34, when the cameras were switched off.
He said: ‘I’m quite lucky, so from being up here [in the podcast studio], when no one’s on the dance floor I do go on there and have a little dance about.’
Joe went on to explain he looks for his partner and asks her to join him: ‘I’d be like, “Do you wanna have a quick little dance?”’
‘I think last year me and Diane had a quick step on the dance floor just to sort of see, one – if I can remember it – and two – just to have a go again which is such a nice thing to be able to do because so many celebrities have that one go and then that’s it.
‘But every now and then I try and sneak on the dance floor and have a little go,’ he explained.
The online celebrity opened all about his affair with the professional Strictly dancer, admitting that work never stops for the couple.
He revealed they chat about the show at home and said: ‘It carries on, we still chat about the time, we still dance together in the kitchen when we can.
‘Every now and then I’ll just sort of go into ballroom hold for a laugh but thinking there’s no way because she’s probably absolutely shattered from dance all day, but she still will.
‘She will test me on my ballroom. I still like to put on a bit of a show when I can, light a few candles, set the mood, a bit of Viennese waltz round around the kitchen.
‘It’s not quite the set that they have here at Elstree but we make do, we make it work!’
Strictly Come Dancing: The Official Podcast by BBC Studios returns for a new series on September 16 – episodes will be available every Sunday from September 24 on BBC Sounds.
