Jonnie Irwin has said that when his suffering becomes unbearable, he’removes himself’ from his family home.
The Place In The Sun host, 49, said in November 2022 that he may only have’months to live’ after being diagnosed with incurable cancer that had migrated from his lungs to his brain.
In a recent interview this month, the adoring father-of-three spoke candidly about his terminal condition as he prepared to spend what would most likely be his final Father’s Day with his wife Jess and his three children, Rex, four, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
When he’s in agony, he’s ‘not nice’ to be around, so he’removes himself,’ according to the TV personality.
‘I remove myself on a number of occasions because I’m not good to be around when I’m in pain,’ Jonnie explained.
He added to HELLO! according to MailOnline: ‘I’m like a bear with a sore head and I don’t want them to be around that.’
Jonnie also revealed to the source that he has yet to inform his three young boys of his cancer diagnosis.
He shared: ‘I keep being asked, “Are you going to tell them?” but tell them what?
‘It would be horrible news that they’d have to get their heads around. And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he’s got a shocking enough day coming. Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible.’
Last month, the broadcaster stated heartbreakingly that he kept his cancer diagnosis concealed because he was afraid of not being able to care for his family.
Appearing on the OneChat podcast with AIG life, Jonnie explained: ‘The only reason I kept it secret is because I’ve got to earn, I’ve got to feed my babies, pay the bills.
‘And as soon as you say you’ve got cancer, people just write you off.’
He added: ‘I had to live with it as a secret.
‘It was really difficult living with such a massive cloud above me and pretending to everyone else.’
