Jonnie Irwin has talked openly about his chats with his kid as he prepares to spend his last Father’s Day with his family.
The 49-year-old TV actor disclosed in November 2022 that he may only have’months to live’ after being diagnosed with incurable cancer that has moved from his lung to his brain.
Jonnie, who lives with his wife Jess and kids Rex, four, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac, has stated that he is now having private chats with Rex about his future and has even touched on how his wife would parent in his absence.
‘I’ve started to tell Rex in private conversations, “You can do anything,”’ Jonnie said in a new interview.
‘He’s bright, he’s talented, and comes home from nursery knowing more French than I do,’ doting dad Jonnie added to HELLO!.
Jonnie also poignantly noted: ‘Jess is soft, so they’ll have a softer upbringing than if I was around, probably.’

In another portion of his candid interview, the TV personality stated that a surgery he had as part of his cancer therapy caused irreparable liver damage.
According to MailOnline, Jonnie called the procedure’s results a ‘cruel blow’ while explaining that he’d recently gone to Turkey for treatment.
‘It’s blocked in a place they can’t operate on, so there’s no point fighting the cancer elsewhere if the liver’s not working. It’s a cruel blow,’ he said.

Jonnie has received outpourings of support on social media since publicly disclosing his condition.
Jonnie remarked in a recent post that he’must have looked a right state’ while racing for a train.

‘Must’ve looked a real state- frantic and scared Chemo boy pulling a wheeled luggage with a bizarre translucent shoulder bag slipping down his arm and a hot crossed bun hanging from the side of his lips attempting to race for the outgoing train,’ he joked on social media with a photo. Fortunately, the kind guardsman held the door at the far end.
‘My penance was that my seat was at the opposite end so I had to walk past all the passengers who had viewed this spectacle.’
