Kelsey Parker has voiced her appreciation to artist Ed Sheeran for his support of her late spouse before his death in 2022. Tom Parker, a member of the musical boyband The Wanted, died at the age of 33 from fatal brain cancer glioblastoma.
Ed, 32, assisted his buddy for the rest of his life by paying for private medical care during his cancer battle.
The Galway Girl singer’s participation in Parker’s therapy was revealed in the late singer’s postmortem book, Hope: My Inspirational Life. Ed had assisted monetarily after the artist was afflicted with an incurable tumour in October 2020, according to the I’m Glad You Came hitmaker.
Parker said: ‘I’ve never publicly said this before (and he’ll probably be mad that I’m doing it now), but Ed is a very special man.
‘He even helped out with my medical bills when I was seeking other treatment options and having private immunotherapy.
‘He didn’t need to do any of that, but my wife Kelsey and I are so grateful to him for his support. It meant the world.
‘Overnight, my entire world turned upside down and I was forced to re-evaluate the value of life itself. I was absolutely petrified – I couldn’t stop thinking about death’.
Following her husband’s passing, Kelsey thanked the celebrity for assisting her family in their time of need. On the MTV show Faces, she informed Ashley Cain that they were in desperate need of assistance during her late husband’s therapy and expressed gratitude to Ed.
Kelsey said: ‘Ed is just an incredible person and what he did when we needed him, I will forever be thankful for. And I know Tom will forever be thankful for everything Ed did for us.
‘Ed is looked after by Kev, his security guard, who was also Tom’s security. The love for Kev will forever hold them together’.
The mother of two shared the tragic news of her husband’s passing with her Instagram fans.
At the time she penned: ‘It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side. Our hearts are broken.
‘Tom was the centre of our world and we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence.
‘We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children.
‘Thank you to everyone who has supported in his care throughout, he fought until the very end. I’m forever proud of you’.
