Kimberley Walsh found fame in Girls Aloud, one of the UK’s biggest girl bands, and she’d love for her children to follow in her musical footsteps.
The Sound of the Underground hitmaker, 41, is a mum to three young boys, sharing Bobby, Cole, and Nate with husband Justin Scott, 40.
And while she’ll support her kids in whatever they pursue, the TV presenter can totally see them performing – even if they are more ‘practical’ in their career ambitions for the time being.
Kimberley, who has fulfilled her dream of launching a brand new paint colour with Wickes, told Metro.co.uk that her little ones are very creative.
‘It’s funny because I can really see the practical side in them, but then they’ve definitely just got it in them to perform,’ she shared.
‘I don’t think they realise, even themselves, quite how much at this time, but I can see it. Especially in Bobby, he’s a natural performer, but sometimes he’s like, “I think I’ll just be a builder that sings.”
‘But they’re very young, so at some point that might change depending on where their love grows.
‘They are naturally talented and little performers, but they don’t want to do it in front of strangers yet.’
As for herself, Kimberley would love to get back on stage when life allows, having previously toured the world with the band, and enjoyed a varied career with success in movies, TV shows, and theatre productions.
‘I’m quite amazed and so grateful for how varied my career has actually been over the last 20 years, I feel like I’ve ticked so many boxes,’ she said.
‘I do love performing and I definitely want to get back on stage at some point. My youngest, Nate, is not quite two yet so I’ve just been trying to spend as much time with him as a baby and make sure I’m around to put him to bed and all of that, so as they get older, those things become a little more doable but at the moment, it doesn’t feel like a very easy job choice.’
She added that she’s currently ‘making things work’ around her family life, but her kids would ‘love to see me in something they can watch.’
As for the roles she’d like to tackle next, Kimberley is keen to branch out after previously playing comedic characters, since her main love is ‘really dramatic’ musicals such as Les Misérables and Miss Saigon.
‘I’ve never really played a serious, dramatic role like that so I feel like that’s got to happen before my career ends, for sure.’
Meanwhile, away from the stage, Kimberley is getting her hands dirty with Wickes, having transformed her home with her latest shade ‘Blue Haze’ (we proposed names like Something Kinda Blue, Life Got Gold, and See The Grey, but they didn’t catch on).
‘It was really exciting for me because I’m constantly creating colours in my head. To actually be able to bring that to fruition was an amazing opportunity to have,’ she said of the process.
As for whether she’s always been an interiors fan, Kimberley added: ‘Literally from being a kid, I would always help my mum with tiling and wallpapering and painting, so it’s embedded in me from a very young age.’
And now she’s keen to get her own brood involved – but she saves the ‘risky’ stuff, like painting walls, for the grown-ups!
‘I have to consider the bits of painting a let them do, or it ends up all over the whole house. But they’re very interested in all of it.
‘My husband does that for a job, so he’s constantly building things and they do seem to take a lot of interest. They know the names of every power tool, it’s quite funny.’
