Lupita Nyong’o has spoken out about how she found consolation from her fans following her breakup with partner Selema Masekela.
After a year of dating, the Us actress acknowledged her split from the TV presenter last week.
After receiving a torrent of encouraging comments online, the 40-year-old took to Instagram to thank people who had reached out in the aftermath of the news.
‘Thank you for all the kindness I have received from sharing my heartbreak news,’ she wrote on her Instagram story, via Entertainment Tonight.
‘The words of encouragement mean more to me than I anticipated. They are a balm.’
In a second post, the Black Panther icon added: ‘And it feels comforting to have a little corner online for the romantically heartbroken to gather.’

Lupita has kept her love life private, although she openly announced her affair with Selema on social media last year.
Many people were taken aback when she decided to change things up in December, sharing a video revealing her lover in a lovely video that has since been deleted.
Alongside the brief clip, showing the pair dancing together while modelling a range of matching outfits, she penned: ‘We just click! @selema #thisismylove #nuffsaid [sic].’
Her former beau added: ‘Hearts are synched. My whole and actual love @lupitanyongo #outkickedthecoverage.’

Lupita released a long statement last Thursday announcing their split, implying that ‘trust’ had been lost.
‘There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering,’ the Oscar-winner began.
‘At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…
‘I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception. I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.”

‘But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass.’
‘The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness,’ she continued. ‘I hope it’s true…
‘I share this to keep it [100%], and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it. #Breakup.
‘Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it.’
